The Beautiful Struggle of Transformation

To be worn as an outward sign of what’s going on inside…

To be worn as an outward sign of what’s going on inside…

Dear Kendra,

Last week we grew caterpillars into butterflies, and you cheerfully let them fly away. You gleefully checked on them growing every day for almost 2 weeks, and got to witness the magic of metamorphosis firsthand.

This process was an amazing metaphor for the many transformations you will go through in this lifetime, as you become more and more of your amazing, unique, authentic self.

You are sensitive and caring and intuitive. These are INCREDIBLE attributes to be celebrated!  But I can tell you as a fellow empath, that they do not facilitate an “easy” path through life. They facilitate a meaningful life, but one that requires constant transformation and acceptance as you navigate from caterpillar to butterfly many times as you grow and evolve as a human being.

In insect or human metamorphosis, there will always be pain or struggle before emerging into the next best version of yourself. The caterpillars were clearly struggling while they were in their chrysalis (they were “going crazy!” as you exclaimed many times). But, the struggle was because they were undergoing such a profound transformation to emerge as beautiful butterflies that could take flight into the world.

You will go through this process over and over again in your life, and I hope you are able to embrace it as the essential part of positive growth that it is, instead of resisting it for an easier, less meaningful experience (or numbing yourself with bad habits in avoidance).

And so, these earrings are a gift from me to you – to be worn any time you are in the depths of a transformation. When the internal struggles or mental challenges are clouding your view of what’s on the other side of that pain, I hope these bring you a sense of peace, of trust, of gratitude that what you are going through is not only worth it, but essential to your becoming what you are meant to be in this life. (Of course, I am also happy to give you a verbal reminder of how infinite your beauty is regardless of what stage you are in at any given moment – caterpillar, butterfly, or otherwise.)

With all my love and hope for this beautiful process of emergence you are on,

Mommy
